Dr. Bethany M.Y. Chan

Dr. Chan has taught in the computer science departments at the Chinese Univeristy of Hong Kong (1981-82), The University of Hong Kong (1982-87) and the University of Texas at Dallas (1987-90). She has been holding a honoarary position in the Department of Computer Science at The University of Hong Kong since 1990.

In 1990, she started her career in the finance industry, working as an investment analyst in James Capel Asia (1990-92), Worldsec International Limited (1992-99) and UBS Warburg (1999-2001). She has been a Chartered Financial Analyst since 1998.

In recent years, her interest has turned to law, obtaining a LL.B. in 2003 and a PCLL in 2004. In 2004, she won a case as a litigant in person in Hong Kong's Court of Final Appeal. She is now a barrister-at-law.

She is also a mother of two children, Justin and Grace, and enjoys spending time with them.

In her spare time, she occasionly does academic research in the algorithms area, does volunteer work and tries to "keep fit" despite junk food.
