Data Streams: An Overview
Line
Speaker: Reynold CHENG

Abstract

A continuous data stream is a potentially infinite stream of relational tuples. Examples of data stream applications include the network installations of Internet service providers, where detailed usage information from different parts of the network needs to be continuously collected and analyzed for interesting trends. In this talk, I will provide an overview of the research results in data stream processing. I will address the issues on the basic stream-processing models and architectures. The problem of "memory boundness" for answering a query will be discussed. I will also explain how the technique of "data sketching" can be used to provide query answers for streaming data efficiently within an error bound.
