Searching in Genomic Sequence Databases -- FASTA, BLAST and CAFE
Line
Speaker: CHENG Lok Lam

Abstract

Genomic sequence databases are widely used by molecular biologists for homology. Similarity searching for DNA/protein sequences is a very important and significant step for research in biology or bioinformatics. In computer science, similarity searching for sequences have been studied for long time and many methods have been proposed. However, due to the huge size of genomic sequence database, most of the methods are not appropriate in the domain of bioinformatics. In this talk, I will introduce some algorithms (FASTA, BLAST and CAFE) for doing similarity searching for genomic sequence databases.
