Project Allocation procedure
The rationale behind this is that no students will be allocated a project he does not want, and no teacher will be forced to accept any groups of students. Teachers will see all project forms that choose his project as first choice (or second choice) at the same time. He can choose the most suitable group for his project. According to previous experience, most projects will be allocated after 1st and 2nd choice is cleared.
You can fill in at most 5 choices. You can choose less than 5, but may take the risk of no project at the end. You can talk to the supervisor before hand.
The project allocation procedures are as follows:
The project list is posted on the web.
A project briefing will be held, where the supervisors will give a brief description on their projects and answer any questions.
After the briefing, the students can talk to the prospective supervisor for more detail of the project.
Students will fill in a project form, with a maximum of 5 choices.
All the forms are collected. The forms will be distributed to the supervisor of the student's first choice project. The supervisor will take whatever number of students/groups he wants.
The general office will collect all the project forms. For those students who do not have project allocated, their form will be passed to the supervisors of his 2nd choice project.
For third to fifth choice, I will talk with the supervisor of the projects directly. The number of students remaining are usually very small at this stage.
The result of first round allocation is announced.
Second Round: remaining students will talk to teachers directly for possible projects.
